Neutral Living Room with Pops of Colour

The bit I'm enjoying most about helping Pete decorate his flat is making it feel more co-ordinated and homely. You would be amazed how spartan a neutral flat can look when it doesn't have any colour in. That's why we're going for a "pop" of colour approach, neutral decor with colourful accessories to brighten the room up, so today I thought I would show you the slightly better, but not quite finished, result.

Pete purchased this sofa from ikea, it was the cheapest corner-sofa-that-is-also-a-sofa-bed that they do, and we wanted a corner sofa to give his small flat a bit more seating space. The sofa-bed part was an added bonus, but seeing that we don't currently have a spare bedroom, this will come in very useful in the future if we have guests to stay. The cushions are also from Ikea (good old Ikea!) and this is where we went for the colour because you can always change pillows if you decide you don't like them. Here we went for a yellow, grey and blue theme, and I'm hoping to head back to Ikea soon and pick up some more as I think four is not enough!

Print-wise I picked up these wooden post cards from the Natural History Museum when we went there on Friday for the museum lates (which I highly recommend!). They are retro advertising posters for the museum and I really like their quirky feel. Placed in a couple of £1 frames from TIGER, and they look very smart, even if I do say so myself.

Finally there's the rug and lamp shade in the hall, which are from... you guessed it! Ikea! (similar rug here). The rug is a beautiful persian pattern, with Reds, yellows, blues and oranges. It really brightens up the hall and it makes me smile every time I see it. The lamp I will talk more about in another post, but it's a very cheap cardboard origami lamp from Ikea, I like it, but I can't help but wonder if I could make a better one... maybe it's time for a DIY post!

If you are eagle eyed, you may have noticed that I haven't talked about the final picture with the bookshelf in it. This is because it's not quite ready yet, but it's getting there! We're going for pops of colour here too with some decorative bowels and plant pots, I have something of a decorative bowl obsession, but that's another post entirely.
